Wow - that is a fabulous excerpt. Truly elevates God and His freedom to do as He pleases. Thanks for posting it!
"For as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, so also the Son gives life to whom he will." -John 5:21
John Owen wrote that God's love is not some natural inclination, mere wish, or propensity toward fallen man, but rather an unchangeable purpose and act of His will concerning the salvation of all believers, to the praise of His glorious grace.
Dear Pastor Carey! When I ponder this TRUTH and look at my own conversion;I must confess my gratitude to God for His Son my Savior Christ Jesus first! After I learned so much more about Jesus; who I am in Him!The second thing that is happening now for me personally;I am pleading with God for His grace and mercy for my husband, son and others and I TRUST in Christ!I look at this truth of election as freeing and also keep in mind:"For who has known the mind of the LORD,that he should instruct Him?But we have the mind of Christ. While I am in Christ I get to TRUST in GOD!!!
I respectfully disagree with the premise in the Michael D. Williams quote. While the text does not specify his definition of “universally dispensed grace”, the context infers it is applied to all that do not hold to a reformed doctrine of election. If this is true, the assertions presented misrepresent the non-reformed perspective on all aspects addressed in this short quote. Since I have not read the book, I cannot speculate if he is only addressing an extreme form of universalism.
